What is NYMEX Natural Gas?

NYMEX Natural Gas refers to natural gas futures contracts which are traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYMEX). A futures contract represents an agreement to buy or sell a specified quantity of a commodity at a predetermined price on a set date in the future.

Worldwide, natural gas represents one of the world’s largest futures contracts for a physical commodity.

Here are some key points about NYMEX Natural Gas:

  1. Futures Contracts: NYMEX Natural Gas futures are standardized contracts that allow traders to speculate on the future price of natural gas or hedge against price fluctuations.
  2. Pricing and Settlement: The price of NYMEX Natural Gas futures is quoted in dollars per Metric Million British Thermal Unit, or MMBtu. 
These contracts are settled in cash.
